Role Description

In this critical role, you’ll play a pivotal role in building and maintaining the robust backend infrastructure that powers our data intensive bioinformatics platform. 

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain back-end for data intensive applications (PB).
• Optimize data storage and retrieval mechanisms for high-performance computing.
• Implement efficient data structures for high-speed search and processing.
• Work with columnar, chunked, and distributed data formats (e.g. HDF5, Zarr, Parquet).
• Handle streaming and batch processing models, as well as parallel and distributed computation (multithreading, multiprocessing, GPU where applicable).
• Optimize CPU, memory, disk I/O, and network usage for massive workloads.
• Profile, benchmark, and debug performance bottlenecks at system level.

Requirements

• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software architecture.
• Proficiency in SQL/NoSQL and protocols like TCP, UDP, and HTTP.
• Solid understanding of OS basics and experience in Rust, Go, C/C++, Java, or C#.
• Experience building high-performance backend systems for large datasets.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and a passion for building from scratch.
• Hands-on experience working with Docker in production environments.
